Not everyone knows where he or she is headed in life, and certainly none of us can predict our own future. But it is important to at least have a clear sense of direction. There is a real sense of peace knowing that we aren't wasting our time moving toward an undesirable destination.

Jesus gave His followers some clear instructions that would set us on the right path. He said that our most important responsibilities were to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart...and soul...and mind" and to "Love your neighbour as yourself" (Matt. 22.37,39). In concluding His ministry He commissioned us to "Go and make disciples of all nations...teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matt. 28.19). These commands, commonly known as the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, represent the core of Jesus' teachings and the essence of God's will for His people. These great challenges give us clear direction, giving us a clear "aim" which can be summed up very simply:

Essentially, these three challenges provides us with a summary of the essential areas of obedience that God expects from those who are serious about following Him. If we continually "aim" to obey these commands, we will have a clear sense of direction and our actions will bring pleasure to God. The result will be healthy, reproducing disciples who join together to form healthy, reproducing churches.
